MALC Goes Blue for World Drowning Prevention Day
On Friday 25th July 2025, Murray Aquatic & Leisure Centre (MALC) proudly joined the global movement for World Drowning Prevention Day, turning the Centre blue to raise awareness and share the vital message that anyone can drown, but no one should.
Our entire team, from Gym Trainers, Group Fitness Instructors, Learn2Swim Teachers, Lifeguards, Duty Supervisors, Co-Ordinators, Kiosk Attendants, Crèche Attendants, Customer Service Officers, and Communications, came together to support this important cause. Staff wore blue, zinc, and accessories, and our Centre was decorated in blue to match the theme.
Visitors enjoyed blue baby chinos, blue milkshakes, and blue hot chocolates at the Kiosk, while the Crèche kids took part in creative blue-themed activities. We also shared Royal Life Saving resources and activities at Reception and Kiosk, helping to spread water safety knowledge far and wide. Learn2Swim and Royal Lifesaving water safety messages as well as fun aquatic photos were displaying on our screens in Centre all day. The Pinjarra Bridge was lit up blue by the Shire of Murray, alongside landmarks across Australia, to show community support.
Royal Life Saving WA shared our social media stories across their platforms, helping the message reach a wider audience a big win for water safety awareness!
While this day is a special reminder, MALC is committed to supporting water safety awareness all year round. One of the most effective steps families can take is to enrol children in swimming lessons, building lifelong skills and confidence in the water.
We encourage everyone to continue practicing simple water safety measures:
-
Supervise children around water
-
Enrol in Learn2Swim programs
-
Check pool fences and gates
-
Avoid alcohol and drugs near water
-
Learn CPR and lifesaving skills
Thank You
A massive thank you to our amazing staff and community for helping us make a splash for such a worthy awareness. We are already looking forward to an even bigger awareness day next year!
